HOBO Temp
HOBO Temp temperature logger

The HOBO Temp logger is a miniature, reusable data logger which continuously measures temperature in remote locations. Start the logger, readout, and plot the data with BoxCarŽ or BoxCarŽ Pro (Windows).

Features

Standard temperature range: -20°C to +70°C
One year battery life (user replaceable)
Small size: 2.4" tall x 1.9" wide x 0.8" thick and 1 oz.
Stores up to 1800 measurements
Nonvolatile EEPROM memory retains data even when the battery has been removed
Temperature sensor on 4" wire extends from case for external measurement
Fifteen minute response time in air
(One minute response time with sensor outside of case)
Operating temperature range (logger) -20°C to +70°C, noncondensing
Operating temperature range (sensor) -40°C to +120°C
Blinking LED light confirms operation
Sampling intervals from 0.5 seconds to 4.8 or 9.0 hours, depending on the software
Optional submersible case rated to 400' depth
Data readout in less than thirty seconds
Data exportable to spreadsheet programs (Lotus, Excel, etc.)

Temperature accuracy

The HOBO Temp's maximum error is shown in Plot A. This error assumes that all contributing factors to the error are at their maximum values and are aligned so their values add together. These errors include: thermistor error, resistor value errors and quantization error (step errors in the digital representation of the temperature). In a typical logger all errors will be substantially lower.

Temperature resolution

The temperature resolution for the HOBO Temp is shown in Plot A. The resolution is the difference between adjacent temperature steps that the logger can record.

Timebase Accuracy

At room temperature the logger's idea of time can vary from the actual time by as much as one hour per year (100ppm or 1/5 of a measurement interval). There is an additional temperature effect shown in Plot B, leading to a worst case timebase accuracy of about two hours per year (230ppm or 1/2 measurement interval), if operated continuously at -20°C or +70°C.

Thermal Time Constant

The thermal time constant (90% response to a step change in temperature) of a HOBO Temp's internal sensor shows a time constant of fifteen minutes in air.
